Stanley Eugene Effertz 1923 - 2007

Stanley Eugene Effertz, 83, 1007 11 Ave. NW, Minot, ND, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007 after a lengthy illness.

He was the seventh child in a family of eight born to Joseph G. and Hannah M. (Butt) Effertz on April 28, 1923 in Velva, ND. He was raised on a farm in North Prairie Township, McHenry County, North Dakota and was educated in rural grade schools and graduated from Velva High School in 1941. He married Lois Mae Pretzer on January 1, 1945 in Velva, ND. They were the parents of four children.

They farmed the first year of their marriage and then worked for the Farmers Union Oil Company and the REA. He was employed by the Northern States Power Company of Minot in 1947 and retired after 38 years in 1985. He sang for many funerals and weddings. His interests were varied and numerous, and if anything blinked, whirled or made a noise, he had to find out, with a driving passion, how it worked.

He is survived by his wife Lois, son Corwin "Corky" and his wife Bonnie of Minot; daughters Sylvia "Sue" Stolba and her husband Mike of Minot, Vicky Triplett and her husband Laurie of Minot, ND and Paula Vilala and her husband John of Tracy, CA; grandchildren, Traci Peterson and her husband Troy, Bart Effertz, Andrea Ritke and her husband Bryan, Michael E. Stolba and his wife Paula, Tiffany Ekstrom and her husband Scott, Travis Triplett, Nathan Triplett and his wife Bree, John Vilala IV and his wife Michelle, Tracy Vilala and his wife Jamie and Carlie Hartley and her husband Rich; great grandchildren, Isaac Peterson, Alexander, Brayden and Hope Effertz, Jason, Zach, Kayla and Kaleasha Ritzke, Re'Anne andMcKayla Stolba, Ronald and Carlie Rudser, Evan and Logan Ekstrom, Tristan and Scarlet Triplett, Kyle Cassero, Richard Hartley, Priscella Casstro and Triston, Brandon, Ryan and Dillon Vilala; brother Gerald Effertz and his wife Loretta of rural Velva; and sisters, Bernadine Lee of Velva and Marcella Johnson of Minot. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Jerome, Marcus and Sylvester, one sister, Katherine Lee, one granddaughter Danielle, one great granddaughterElyssa and his father and mother in law Sid and Esther Pretzer.

Funeral: Friday, April 20, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 2025 9 St. NW, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Wednesday, April 18. 2007 from 4 pm until 7 pm and Thursday April 19, 2007 from 9 am until 7 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Final Resting Place: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
