Leona Duerre 1913 - 2005

Leona Duerre, 91, Kenmare, died Sunday, May 29, 2005 in a Kenmare Nursing Home.

Leona was born on July 25, 1913, the daughter of Emil and Mary (Reischke) on the family farm in Stafford Township, the youngest of eight children. In 1920, her parents turned over the operation of the family farm to her brothers and they moved to Kenmare for one year, and then to Minot, where Leona attended school.

Following her high school graduation, Leona attended Business College for a few years, when she moved to the West Coast. She worked for a newspaper in Longview, WA for several years. In 1941, she returned to North Dakota to care for her ailing mother, and assist her brothers with the farm. Leona remained on the farm for many years following her mother's death, assisting her brother Amos with the farm.

In 1958, they moved to Minot, where the St. Joseph's Hospital employed her in the maternity ward for a number of years.

In 1965, she returned with her brother to active farming. She remained on the farm for several years following his death, before moving to Kenmare.

Leona was a member of the Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare. She loved to bake, was an excellent seamstress, and made several beautiful afghans. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles in her pastime.

She is survived by: Nephews: Byron (Joyce) Duerre, Kenmare, ND; Dennis (Verna) Duerre, CA; Malcolm (Judy) Duerre, San Burno, CA; Kenny (Susan) Duerre, Los Alimos, NM; Gerald (Colleen) Duerre, Vista, CA.;Nieces: Marilyn (Richard) Lee, Sherwood, WI, JoAnn (Bill) Toy, Auburn, CA

Leona was preceded in death by: her parents, brothers, Harold, Marvin, Melvin, Alvin, Malcolm, and Amos, sister, Lydia, and nephews Duane, and Danny Duerre

Visitation: There will be no reviewal, but friends may sign a register book from noon until service time on Thursday.

Funeral Service: Thursday, June 2, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare, ND

Burial: 4:30 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005 at the Rosehill Cemetery, Norma, ND
