Casey M. Duchsherer, 22, Minot, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in a Minot hospital, surrounded by his loving family and friends, following a one year battle with cancer.

Casey was born Sunday, May 4, 1986 to Clyde and Monica (Anderson) Duchsherer in Minot. He attended Lincoln Elementary School, Jim Hill Middle School, Central Campus, And Magic City Campus, graduating in May 2004. He loved learning, in particular geology, German, and history, and he had a special love for Russia and Germany. He was attending Minot State University majoring in history when he was diagnosed with cancer in April 2008 and was able to finish the school year while beginning cancer treatments.

In school, he was active in theatre, band, and Science Olympiad, and he won the school geography bee twice. He was a member of the Thespian Society, and he enjoyed being in school plays. Once, he even had his hair shaved off by a friend for a part in a play. He was also a member of the Boy Scout Troop 411.

Casey started working at the Carmike Stadium Cinema 9 Theater in the Dakota Square Mall during his junior year in high school and continued working there as assistant manager until ill health prevented him from working.

He was actively involved in the Red Carpet venue in Minot. He loved music: playing it, going to concerts, or just listening to his many records. He loved many bands like Rush, the Beatles, and Modest Mouse. He also enjoyed to read informational books or authors like John Steinbeck, J.D. Salinger, and Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. He loved comedies like The Simpsons, and he also liked anything Star Trek or Star Wars. Discussing politics was always fun for him. Also, like his dad, he liked working with electronics or anything mechanical, like fixing the projector at work.

He was a collector of many things, including, coins, paper money, knives, lighters, guitars, vinyl records, hats, and helmets, and he also collected some of the best friends ever! He loved to travel and took many trips to the west coast. He was a sweet, outgoing young man who purchased his beloved 1974 Chevy Nova before he even had his drivers license. He enjoyed driving around with his friends. He always loved going out, and he loved doing things with them, like going biking, playing video games, or going out to eat.

Casey always had a wonderful sense of humor, no matter how ill he got. He was a very generous young man who liked giving gifts, and he always tried to make people laugh and feel better. He will always be greatly missed.
