Dewayne
D. Domer, 88, 1824 4th St. SW, died Monday, March 3, 2008
in a Minot hospital.
Dewayne was born on July 17, 1919, the son of Emil and Berthena
(Ness) Domer in Grenora, ND. He was raised and educated in El
Monte, CA and Donnybrook, ND.
On April 14, 1942, Dewayne enlisted into the United States Army.
He proudly served his country during World War II, receiving
the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Ribbon, the
Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Ribbon and 4 Overseas Bars. Dewayne
was honorably discharged on November 26, 1946. He was stationed
at the Atu Island, Alaska, Burma, and taught for the military
in San Bernardino, CA where daughter Sharon was born.
Dewayne was united in marriage on August 19, 1944 to Frances
Jensen at Forest Lawn in Glendale, CA. Following his discharge,
the couple moved to Minot, ND where Dewayne finished his BA degree
in one year from Minot State Teachers College. They moved to
Berthold, ND and began his teaching career at Berthold where
he later served as Principal and Superintendent of Schools. Frances
also taught English at Berthold. He was active in the Berthold
American Legion Post and served on the Zion Lutheran Church council
and various community groups. While living in Berthold Lynette,
Kathleen and Marsha were born.
In 1957 the family moved to Minot where Dewayne taught Business
at Minot Model and later as Professor of Business at Minot State
University until his retirement after 29 years with the university.
Dewayne, Frances and their four daughters are all Bachelor degree
graduates from MSU. Dewayne was a member of the National Education
Association (NEA), NDEA, the American Legion and Bethany Lutheran
Church.
Dewayne served on the Bethany Lutheran Church council for several
years where his grandparents were charter members. Upon retirement
he returned to farming at Donnybrook where he had many friends
and fond memories from his youth.
Those who shared his life: daughters, Sharon Stinard
and her husband, Roger, Mesa AZ, Lynette Fuchs and her husband,
David, and Marsha Drechsel, all Minot, Kathleen Jacobs and her
husband Gary, Monument, CO; five grandchildren, Stephanie Cart,
Nicole, Alisha and Christine Jacobs, and Alex Drechsel; two great-grandchildren,
Morgan and Zachary Cart. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
also survive.
Dewayne was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister,
Myrtle Davidson.
Funeral: Friday, March 7, 2008 at 10 a.m. in Bethany
Lutheran Church, Minot.
Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
Visitation: Thursday, March 6, 2008 from 2-7 in Thompson-Larson
