Elmer E. Dix 1923 - 2010

Elmer Dix PhotoElmer E. Dix, 86, Velva, died Monday, February 1, 2010, at the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva, ND.

Elmer was born October 6, 1923 in Bergen, ND, to Peter J. and Hulda (Wendland) Dix.  He was raised and educated in the Bergen area. 

On February 9, 1962, Elmer married Gladys Hanson Aanderud in Sidney, MT.  Following their marriage he worked for Bechtold Paving for many years, and he and Gladys lived in various towns, where his work took them.  He then worked the family farm near Bergen with his brother, Leonard.  When Leonard passed away he began farming and ranching on his own.  He truly enjoyed raising cattle, especially Simmental Cross and Herefords, which he called his pets.  His wife Gladys passed away on July 11, 2007.

Elmer was a member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church, and the Velva American Legion, both in Velva, ND.  For many years he was a member of the Eagles Aerie in Minot.  In his younger days he enjoyed hunting.

Those who shared in his life, stepchildren, Myrna Beltz, Velva, ND, and Leslie (Ethel) Aanderud, Riverside, CA;  nieces and nephews, Troy (Sandi) Rasmusson, Pam (Larry) Mortenson, Kirk Rasmusson, Kimberly Rasmusson and Vanessa Rasmusson.

Elmer was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys; stepson, Paul Aanderud; his parents; brothers, Leonard and Lester; and sister, Myra; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral:  Friday, February 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, ND.

Visitation:  Friday, one hour prior to the service in the church.

Burial:  Velva Cemetery, Velva, ND, in the spring.
