Barbara May Dietrich, 79, Minot, formerly of Wolf Point, MT, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 in a Minot hospital.

Barbara Smith was born on May 17, 1928, the daughter of Jack and Adelia (Laverdure) Smith in Dooley, MT. She was raised in Dooley, and moved to Plentywood, MT, when she was 17. She worked at Decks Bakery as a waitress; it was here she met her future husband.

On November 22, 1947, she was united in marriage to Louis Dietrich at a catholic church in Plentywood, MT. They farmed and ranched six miles northwest of Plentywood, with Louis' father Frank. In 1954, they moved to Wolf Point, MT, where they owned and operated the Farmers Union Insurance Agency for 51 years.

Barbara's family was very important to her. She enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, crafting, sewing and spending time with the grandchildren. Louis and Barbara enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the Unites States and four trips to Hawaii.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, the Catholic Daughter Society and Homemakers Club, all of Wolf Point, MT. Barbara was a special lady that touched every life she came into contact with, including those in health care who cared for Barbara over the last few years. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

Husband of 60 years, Louis, Minot; children: Dallas (Mary) Dietrich, Keystone, SD, Debra Dietrich, San Francisco, CA, Lu (Dean) Simensen, Culbertson, MT, and Lynette (Kenn) Simensen, Minot, ND. Four grandchildren: Beau, KaDee, Taylor, and Jordan:

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, grandchildren Dawn (Dietrich) Krutzky and Deric Dietrich and sister Cleo McCoy.

Visitation: Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from noon until 7 at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot

Immediately following the graveside service, everyone is invited to join the family in the Community Room at the Brentmoore of Minot Assisted Living located at 3515 10th St SW. It is located directly north of Dakota Square Mall or Directly South of Wal-Mart Supercenter.

The Dietrich family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Barbara.
