Irene Yvonne Lamoureux Deschamp 86, Minot, died Friday, February 15, 2008 at a Minot hospital.

Irene was born on August 31, 1921, on a farm near Newburg, ND, the daughter of Joseph and Celina (Cadieux) Lamoureux. Irene graduated from Newburg High School and in 1943, earned her teaching standard certificate at Minot State Teachers College. Her first teaching position was in Velva, teaching second grade. Irene also taught catechism at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva.

On June 12, 1945, Irene was united in marriage to Edgar Leonard Deschamp at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Westhope. They moved to Edgar's farm north of Westhope and farmed there for 24 years where Irene taught kindergarten for several years. The couple later moved to Sherwood, where Irene taught fifth grade.

Edgar and Irene retired to Minot where Irene was a substitute teacher at St. Leo's School. Irene believed in helping others and keeping busy. Edgar died on December 17, 2001, in Minot. In 2007, Irene became a resident of Somerset Court.

Irene was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church where she volunteered in various capacities, including St. Winifred Guild where she was a past president and secretary, Treasurer of St. Leo's Confraternity, a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Serra Club, assisted with education contests, ushering and counting money for 20 years, and taking Trinity Homes residents to Mass. She also did sewing for the Bishop Ryan High School Boutique, served as a Hospice worker sitting with patients at the hospital, providing family members with time off. Irene worked with the UniMed Auxiliary, helping with crafts, bazaars, bake sales, Victorian teas, card sales, gift carts, making flower arrangements, and volunteering at Edgewood Vista and Manor Care Nursing Home. Irene helped decorate the swing bed unit at UniMed for several years. She attended Bible classes, served as a long-time 4-H leader, belonged to Silver Connection, and volunteered at the Minot Tourist Center.

Irene is survived by three daughters, Karen Bergstad, Bismarck, Peggy Brudwick, Fargo, ND, and Diane (Chub) Olson, Moorhead, MN; six grandchildren, Sarah (Chirs) Lewandowski and Andrea Deschamp all of Fargo, Tanya Brungard, Bismarck, Jeff Brudwick, Fargo and Brad and Derek Olson, Moorhead; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan Brungard and Hannah Thompson, Bismarck and Sage Brudwick, Fargo; three sisters, Jeanette Register, Minot, Helen Benson, California, and Eva Goodman, Minot; special friend and former son-in-law, Jon Bergstad, Bismarck; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edgar, son Robert Deschamp, and brothers and sisters, Cecelia, Mary Ann, Rose Marie, Celina, Fred, Alice Joe, Lawrence and Vincent.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, February 16, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot

Visitation: will be one hour prior to the service at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
