Marie Demchuk 1909 - 2005

Marie Demchuk, 89, Butte, ND, died Monday, October 17, 2005, at Trinity Homes in Minot.

Marie Margaret Rittenbach was born on December 22, 1915, the sixth child of Fred and Rosie (Schock) Rittenbach on their family farm twelve miles south of (Dogden) now Butte, North Dakota in Medicine Hill Township. She was raised there and graduated from grade school at the age of 14. She assisted her parents with the operation of the farm until she was 22 years old. Marie spent the next three years at the Enterprise Academy in Enterprise, Kansas, graduating in 1941. She then attended Pacific Union College in Angwin, CA, for one year and two quarters. She sold books during the summer and entered nurse's training at Paradise Valley School of Nursing in National City, CA, and graduated in 1948.

Marie was united in marriage to Jack Demchuk on July 25, 1949, in Minot. They made their home on the family farm, located about 3 ½ miles west of Butte. They farmed small grains and raised cattle. She also worked as a nurse for Trinity Hospital and for Turtle Lake Community Hospital until 1976. Jack passed away on December 29, 1997. Following her husbands death, she continued to reside on the farm until moving into Minot in 2004 and residing at Emerald Court and Trinity Homes.

She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church, Butte. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, painting, quilting, and reading.

Surviving family includes: son, Wallace, Butte, sisters, Frieda (Raymond) Plesuk, Minot, Esther Novak, Portland, TN, Leone Good, Kennasaw, GA, Hilda Dickhaut, McClusky, ND, and Rosie Brinley, Firth, NE, brothers, Otto (Carol) Rittenbach, Greenville, NC, Emanuel (Jean) Rittenbach, Milton Freewater, OR, and Fred Jr. (Jennie) Rittenbach, Minot, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; infant son, Wildon Demchuk, brothers, Edwin, Hilbert, John, Robert, and Carl Rittenbach, and an infant brother, Theofield Rittenbach.
Funeral: Friday, October 21, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Seventh-day Adventist Church, Minot, ND.

Interment will take place at 2:00 pm at the Butte Community Cemetery, Butte, ND.

Visitation: Thursday from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred to an organization of the donor's choice.
