Edna M. Rude-Dahl 1917 - 2006 Edna Marie Lindberg was born May 7, 1917, to Martin and Gunda (Kindsbeck) Lindberg at Columbus, ND. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and was a continuous member of First Lutheran Church, now Trinity Lutheran Church of Columbus. Edna attended school in Columbus through the eighth grade at which time she was needed at home. While in school, she especially enjoyed being a member of the Columbus High School basketball team. During a tournament in Flaxton, the team stayed at the Flaxton Hotel which was a big experience for her. On May 7, 1936, she married Arthur Rude at Columbus. They lived and farmed south of Columbus with his parents. While on the farm, they attended Grandview Lutheran Church and Edna and her mother-in-law enjoyed the activities of the Ladies Aid. This was the time when there were several "country schools" in the neighborhood and Edna was one of the "school bus" drivers, which was not always an easy job on the dirt roads after a rain or in a snowstorm. After the death of her father, Edna and Art moved into Columbus residing in the house in which she was born and where she would continue to live until 2001. Until his death on October 21, 1952, Art worked for the Bonsness Coal Mine and later as a mechanic at a local garage. Edna worked as a waitress for several years. Edna and Orvald Dahl were married on November 2, 1963, in Columbus, where they continued to reside. They enjoyed attending all activities in which their grandchildren participated and were great supporters of the Bowbells Basketball teams. They also enjoyed traveling to California to visit family, attending dances, playing pinochle and bingo. Orvald passed away on October 18, 2006, at the Kenmare Hospital where they had shared a room since 2003. Edna was a great "Mom" and "Grandma." The grandkids loved to go up and spend time with them and they were always available for babysitting. She was a wonderful cook and nobody seems to get meatballs, stuffing or cabbage salad to have that special flavor. In her later years, before the on come of macular degeneration, she loved to crochet and made many afghans and doilies for family members.
