Robert L. "Bob"
Dahl 1932 - 2004 Robert L. "Bob" Dahl, 71, 621 Main St. South, Minot, died Wednesday, May 12, 2004, in the Westhope Nursing Home. Robert was born September 7, 1932, on the family farm, near Turtle Lake, ND, the son of Leonard and Calma (Halverson) Dahl. He was raised and attended school in Coleharbor, Garrison and Minot. On February 16, 1949, he entered the Army National Guard, and on January 16, 1951, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. Bob was honorably discharged June 24, 1952, with the rank of Corporal. Bob returned to North Dakota and managed Behm's Propane Plant in Tioga for several years. He later moved to Minot and in 1959 began working as a firefighter for the Minot Fire Department. He worked at the Fire Department for 34 years until his retirement in 1993. Bob was certified in teaching Arson Investigating classes for the Minot Fire Department. On his days off from the Fire Department he drove semi trucks for Transport Inc. and Cenex. Bob married Therese "Terrie" Schaan, of Rugby, on July 5, 1956, at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot. They divorced in 1986, and were reunited in 1997. Bob was a lifetime member the American Legion, William G. Carroll Post #26, Minot, ND, and was very active in the Legion Color Guard. Bob assisted many families in this area by doing flag presentations for veterans funerals. He was former commander for the American Legion, was a life-member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of AMVETS. He was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, ND. Survivors: Therese "Terrie" Dahl, Minot; children, Thomas (Judi) Dahl, Bismarck, Cordell (Tamar) Dahl, Surrey, Roberta (Tom) Henry, Westhope, Mary Lou (Terry) Keyes, and William (Jessica) Dahl, all of Minot; nine grandchildren, Eric and Lindsay Dahl, Christopher and Tiffany Keyes, Sheena Dahl, Caitlyn, Calvin and Calma Henry, and Kenny Funk; one great-grandson, Jaeger Hoiland; step-mother, Maggie Behrens, Minot; brothers, Larry (Laura) Dahl, and Richard (Bonnie) Dahl, all in Arizona; sister, Frances Schmit, Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Bob was preceded in death by parents, Leonard and Calma Dahl; brother, Harvey Dahl and sister, Calma Leona Dahl. Funeral: Monday, May 17, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot, ND. Visitation and vigil prayer service: Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday, from noon to 5:00 p.m., with the vigil prayer service Sunday at 5:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.
