Alfred Harold Cushing 1918 - 2004
Alfred Harold Cushing, 86, 1604 Main St. South, Minot, died
Saturday, September 11, 2004, in a Minot nursing home.
He was born on January 24, 1918, in Arnegard, ND, the son
of Charles and Gertrude (Stevens) Cushing. He was reared and
educated in the Arnegard area, and assisted his parents with
the operation of the farm.
In 1942, Alfred enlisted in the United States Navy. While in
the Navy, he was stationed in the Pacific on the USS Atlanta.
He was honorably discharged in 1945. He attended many reunions,
as he made many close friends while he served his country.
He married Agnes Leom, of Bonetrail ND, on April 11, 1947 in
Sidney, MT. They made their home and farmed in the Arnegard area
until 1953, when they moved to Williston. Alfred was employed
at Stice Motors, Williston, and Great Northern Railroad, before
starting a career as a truck driver for Hart Motor Express. Alfred
retired in 1980. During retirement, he worked part time for Applegrove
golf course, and spent a couple of winters in Arizona.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Minot Odd Fellows
#45, The Moose Lodge, American Legion, Sons of Norway and a former
member of the VFW.
Alfred loved to play pinochle and solitaire. He was a great
family man, and will be greatly missed for his witty sense of
humor.
He is survived by: Wife of 57 years, Agnes; son, Gerald
"Jerry" (Bev) Cushing, Minot; daughter, Charlotte (Doug)
Grant, Larimore, ND; grandchildren, Theresa, Rose and Charles
Cushing, Christopher (Sarah) Grant, Stephanie (Clyde) Harvey,
Michael Grant, 3 great grandchildren, Ariel Holbrook, Avery Grant,
Aiden Grant; sisters, Myrtle Cushing, Williston, and Ethel Larson,
Port Angeles, WA and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by; son, Robert "Bobby" Cushing;
his parents; brothers, Herbert, Morris, and Frank; sister, Margaret
Booke.
Funeral Service: Wednesday, September 15, 2004, at 11:00
at Bread of Life Lutheran Church, Minot.
Visitation: Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at Thompson
Larson Funeral Home, Minot from noon until 7:00 pm
