Gerald Cornog 1918 - 2006

Gerald Cornog, 88, Minot, formerly of Kramer, died Monday, August 28, 2006 in a Minot nursing home.

Gerald was born March 20, 1918 in Spokane, Missouri, to Elmer and Mary Lee (Gilbert) Cornog. He moved with his family to Quay, Oklahoma where he was raised, educated and helped work on the farm. He worked with threshing crews and while working for them moved to the Kramer area.

Gerald entered the United States Army on April 8, 1942 and served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He was honorably discharged on October 19, 1945.

On January 18, 1944 he married Lauretta Helen Gust in Tacoma, Washington. They moved back to the Kramer area. He worked as a bartender in Kramer for two years and in 1950 Gerald began a career with the Soo Line Railroad on the section crew. He retired in January of 1981. In 1984 they moved to Minot.

Gerald was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church, Kramer. He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot, and the Bottineau American Legion Post #42. He served on the Kramer School Board for several years. He was a former member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way.

Survivors: Wife, Lauretta Cornog, Minot; sons, Jerome (Bonnie) Cornog, Dothan, Alabama, and Gene (Ethel) Cornog, Minot; daughter, Darlene Cornog, Minot; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Funeral: Friday, September 1, 2006, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Thursday, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.
