Du Wayne D. Clott 1923 - 2010 Du Wayne Dale Clott was born March 11, 1923, in Minot, to Chester and Ellen (Botz) Clott. Du Wayne acquired the nickname “Snookie” from his Grandmother Clott because he was 1 ½ pounds when he was born. He was baptized and confirmed Lutheran on June 19, 1938, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minot. At the age of 13, he went to work at Sweetheart Bakery in order to help his family with living expenses. It was there that he nearly had his arm torn off in a bread slicer. He graduated from Minot High School in 1942. Du Wayne’s first car was a model A. During his youth, he would paint it a different color for every girlfriend he had. Fortunately, all of his friends got together with him to help him scrape off the paint before it was repainted once again. Du Wayne married Mary Lou Cain January 24, 1948, in Minot. Together they raised their two sons, Larry and Dean. They first lived in a tiny 8 x 10 ft sunroom in Minot; then lived in a two-room unmodernized house in Minot located on south hill behind Oppen’s Grocery. He remodeled this home, which was their first home with running water. The bathroom downstairs had a chemical toilet. He later built a house by himself on 17th Street, which he lived in the rest of his life. Du Wayne worked as a cab driver, city bus driver, and had worked at Montgomery Wards. He then went to work at Nash Finch Wholesale Company and retired there after 35 years. He had many physical health problems near his retirement and also suffered from severe arthritis in his later years. He was always a hard worker, loved working with his hands, and spending time in his garage. He enjoyed playing the violin as a child, loved singing, country music, loved running sound for Badlands Express, and was always whistling. He also enjoyed raising large flocks of pigeons. Du Wayne never learned how to swim, but he always made time to go boating, as he enjoyed being captain of his pontoon boat and spending time at his lake cabin. Wherever he went, he was known by almost everyone. He had the ability to make friends in seconds and was very proud of that quality. He enjoyed visiting with his many friends and loved playing friendly pranks on people. He placed other’s needs ahead of his own, and was constantly helping others. His family was the most important thing to him. He was their strength, especially during his wife’s health issues, his son, Larry’s broken neck, and with the two floods that caused damage to his house. Du Wayne is survived by two sons, Larry Clott, Moscow, ID, and Dean (Kathy) Clott, Minot; brothers, Jerry (Joan) Clott, Minot, and Ronnie (Maryann) Clott, Kennewick, WA; sisters, Leora Huddleson, Mandan, ND, Lynnette (Lloyd) Lesmann, Minot, Elayne (George) Yineman, Minot; companion, Hazel Andreson, Minot; granddaughter, Lynsie Clott, Pittsburgh, PA; step-grandson, Matt (Chelsey) Solberg, Minot; step-great-granddaughters, Madison and Mckenna Solberg, Minot.
