Mona Ferol Chilson • 1919 - 2003 Mona Ferol Chilson, 84, Velva, died Friday, August 22, 2003, in a Minot hospital. Mona was born July 25, 1919, in Velva, ND at Dr. John's Clinic, the daughter of Clarence G. and Jane Evelyn Hawthorne. She was raised in the Voltaire area, and graduated from Bergen High School. She attended Minot State College where she earned her teaching certificate. Mona taught school in Oliver County and Olivia Township, McHenry County. On June 7, 1941 she married Victor Chilson at the Voltaire Methodist Church. They were the first couple to be married in that church. They farmed in the Velva area until they retired and moved to Velva in 1981. Victor passed away in November of 1982. Mona continued to live in Velva and entered the Souris Valley Care Center in Velva in February of 2001. Mona was a member of the Velva United Methodist Church, the Sew and So Club in Velva, the Velva Senior Citizens and the United Methodist Women. Mona served as clerk for Brown Township for many years. Survivors: Son, Robert (Linda) Chilson, Velva; grandsons, Cody and Nathan Chilson, Velva; brother, W. Bruce (Gladys) Hawthorne, Dearborn, MI; many nieces and nephews also survive. Mona was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Chilson; daughter, Jeanne Chilson, two infant daughters, Myrtle Marguerite and Mona Jane Chilson; parents, Clarence G. and Jane Evelyn Hawthorne; brother, Clarence Hawthorne; sister, Myrtle Sethney. Funeral: Tuesday, August 26, 2003, at 10:00 a.m., at the Velva United Methodist Church. Visitation: Monday, August 25, 2003, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva. Burial: Velva Community Cemetery, Velva, ND. Memorial preferred to the Velva Area Dollars For Scholars
