Eloy G. Charlebois 1922 - 2004

Eloy G. Charlebois, 82, Minot, died Thursday, October 28, 2004, in a Minot hospital.

Eloy was born March 24, 1922, in Minot, ND, the son of Louis and Julia (Drankstead) Charlebois. He was reared and educated in Minot and graduated from St. Leo's Catholic School in 1940. While attending St. Leo's Eloy played baseball and basketball. His basketball team held the Class B Championship Title for 1938 and 1939.

He attended St. John's University in Collegeville, MN. Eloy served three and half years with the United States Coast Guard during WWII, of which two years were spent on a destroyer as a convoy escort in the North Atlantic.

On November 30, 1946, Eloy married Beverly Johnson at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Eloy was an ornamental ironworker and he co owned and operated Charlebois Blacksmith Shop in Minot for many years.


Eloy was a founding member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and a life member of the Elks, the Knights of Columbus, and American Legion, Minot. He was also a member of the Moose in Minot.

Survivors: sons, Steven (Rita) Charlebois, Mandan, ND, Stuart (Katherine) Charlebois, Torrance, CA, James (Patti) Charlebois, Lincoln, NE; daughters, Suzanne (William) Baumann, Moreno Valley, CA, and Janette (Robert) Morey, Mission Viejo, CA; daughter-in-law, Cindy Charlebois, San Diego, CA; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; brother, Louis (Myrtle) Charlebois, Minot; numerous nieces nephews and cousins survive. Eloy was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly; son, Jesse Charlebois; parents, and his brother and sister-in-law, Anthony (Verna) Charlebois.

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, November 2, 2004, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.

Visitation: Monday, November 1, 2004, from Noon until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Vigil Prayer Service: Monday, November 1, 2004, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.

Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot.
