Alma B. Carstens 1906 - 2004

Alma B. Carstens, 98, Kenmare, ND, died Wednesday, October 27, 2004, in a Kenmare hospital.

Alma Bertha Carstens was born on June 13, 1906, the daughter of Gustav and Clara (Penzanhagen) Carstens in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. In 1917, the family moved to the Kenmare area. She attended Kenmare High School and in 1929, graduated from the Kenmare Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing. In 1932, she was employed at the hospital. In 1935, she became the Kenmare Hospital Nurses Administrator, and later the Hospital Administrator, a position she held until retirement in 1968.

Alma was an active member of Kenmare community, a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Nazareth Lutheran Church of Kenmare, and recently rejoined the Trinity Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, Tolley, ND, where she was confirmed.

Surviving family includes: sisters: Dora Goetsch; and Hertha Thingstad, both of Kenmare;
sister-in-law: Irene Carstens of Billings, MT;15 nieces and nephews.

Alma was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Olga Wenberg, Margaret Frederickson, Elsie Carstens, and Beda Carstens; brothers: Emil, Arthur, Julius, and Reinhold Carstens; nephews: Harold Frederickson, and Ronald Carstens.

Funeral: Saturday, October 30, 2004, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Tolley, ND.

Interment: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Tolley, ND.

Visitation: Friday, October 29, 2004, from 2 until 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Kenmare.
