J. Carroll 1935 - 2005 Michael "Mike" J. Carroll, 70, Minot, died Wednesday, October 19, 2005, in a Minot hospital. Mike was born on January 1, 1935, in Minot, ND, the son of Thomas and Caroline (Sutton) Carroll. He was reared and educated in Minot and worked for a short time at Northwest Projector and Film Supply. On January 28, 1955, Mike entered the Untied States Army. He was honorably discharged on January 27, 1959. He married Frances Ziegler on May 2, 1960, at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. The couple made their home in Minot where they had three children. Mike worked for the United States Bureau of Reclamation in Minot and later for the United States Post Office where he retired after 35 years. After his retirement he went to work at Minot Chrysler Toyota Scion Center Inc. as an area representative in Minot and many surrounding communities. Mike also worked part time for many years at Charlebois Blacksmith Shop and the Empire Theater. Mike was a member of the American Legion William G. Carroll Post #26, Business Agent for International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, American Philatelic Association, ALANO Society, a past president of the Local and State American Postal Workers Association and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus all in Minot. Mike had numerous accomplishments. He spearheaded a Ride N' Drive Program for area schools, organized many golf tournaments for various organization including Special Olympics, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served as past president of the Souris Valley Men's Golf Association and was an Honorary Member of the Three Affiliated Tribes. Mike enjoyed playing cards, golfing, bowling and hunting, but most of all Mike enjoyed people. He loved visiting with his family and friends. He was member of St. Leo's Catholic Church and St. John's Catholic Church both in Minot. Survivors: Frances, Minot, ND; son, James Carroll, Minot; daughters, Rhonda Carroll (Dennis Officer) Minot and Lisa Backlund (David), Fargo, ND; grandchildren, Terrel Officer, Taryn Officer, Alexandra Backlund and Sophia Backlund; sister, Dona M. Young, Minot, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Caroline, brother, James Carroll and sister, Shirley Thatcher. at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. Prayer Service: Friday, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
