Edward "Ed" Carlson 1912 - 2002

Edward "Ed" Carlson, 90, Bowbells, died Wednesday, September 4, 2002, in the Kenmare Hospital.

He was born on February 25, 1912, on the family farm southeast of Bowbells, ND, to Carl and Cacilia (Christiansen) Carlson. He was raised and educated in a country school near their farm. He began working with his family on the farm and continued to live and work there his entire life. After his parents' retirement, he farmed with his brothers and they operated the farm together. Ed and his brothers were very skilled mechanics and could build, fix, or repair nearly anything that came up. They had a virtual machine shop right on their farm, and many neighbors brought machinery and parts that needed welding or fixing, to have the Carlson brothers get it working again. Ed and his brothers were hard working people, and they took great pride in the upkeep and care of their John Deere equipment. Ed was a member and former director for the Niobe Grain Elevator. He attended Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Bowbells. He was a member of the Kenmare and Bowbells bowling leagues for many years. Following his retirement, he moved to Kenmare, where he lived in the Kenmare Community Nursing Home and Hospital until the time of his death.
