James L. "Bud"
Carlson 1927 - 2006 He was born on March 12, 1927, in rural Kandiyohi Township, Burke County the son of Otto and Mabel (Hjort) Carlson. He attended Kandiyohi school number one from grades 1-8 and then Kenmare High School. Bud entered the United States Army on November 30, 1945, serving in Japan where he received the Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal. He was honorably discharged on February 17, 1947. After his discharge, Bud returned to North Dakota and assisted his brother, Raymond on the family farmstead for one year. Bud went to work for Standard Oil in 1948, in Blaisdell, ND. After one year in Blaisdell he transferred to Kenmare where he owned and operated the Standard Oil Bulk Plant until he sold it in 1983. He married Dorothy Peterson from Maddock, ND, in 1950. The couple had four children together. Bud was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare, was a former member of the Kenmare Lion's Club and he served on the Kenmare Park Board. He was active in Gideon's International for many years traveling to Africa and New York to hand out Bible's. Bud's relationship with Jesus Christ was foremost in his life. He loved to sing in the Good News Quartet and was very interested in Child Evangelism work. He was a very generous person and put the Lord and other's first. Survivors: wife of 55 years, Dorothy, Kenmare; son, James (Faye) Carlson, Kenmare; daughter, Carol (David) Tengesdal, Tioga, ND; sister, Twila Enget, Kenmare; five grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, and Rebecca Carlson and Mark and Samuel Tengesdal; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sons, Douglas and Jeffrey and two brothers, Russell and Raymond Carlson. Funeral Service: Thursday, October 12, 2006, at 2 p.m.
at Faith Baptist Church, Kenmare. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial to: Child Evangelical
Fellowship, Faith Baptist Mission or Gideon's International.
