Bernice L. Carlson • 1925 - 2009 Bernice Melberg was born January 21, 1925, rural Battle View, ND, a daughter to Albin and Hazel (Carlson) Melberg. She was raised on the farm near Battle View and graduated from Powers Lake High School in 1943. On August 10, 1943 Bernice married Clifford Blomquist in a garden wedding at Battle View. They made their home on the family farm, where they raised their four children and Bernice was an active farming partner. Clifford passed away February 13, 1963. Bernice continued the farming operations and on April 10, 1964 she married Clarence Carlson. They farmed at Battle View and Columbus, retiring to Powers Lake in 1989. Clarence passed away April 11, 1997. Bernice continued to reside in her home until entering the Tioga Medical Center on March 12, 2009. Bernice was a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Battle View. She enjoyed her retirement years, making quilts for missions and family members. A side line business for many years was patching and replacing zippers. She enjoyed having guests and cooking for them, quilting and working outdoors. Not only was Bernice grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother to 38, she was also known as "Grama Bernice" to many in her lifetime. She was a wonderful lady who will be deeply missed. Those who shared in her life, son, Robert (Patricia) Blomquist, Battle View; son-in-law, Stan Miller; daughters, Barbara (Darrell) Carlson and Marsha (Gary) Paul, all of Powers Lake; stepson, Rolland (Marlys) Carlson, Columbus; 20 grandchildren, Scott (Brenda) Carlson, Rick (Teri) Carlson, Brenda (Jarret) Van Berkom, Lisa (Fabian) Albrecht, Todd (Jacqueline) Miller, Chris (Samantha) Blomquist, Michelle (Lance) Kraft, Amy (Austin) Wilhelm, Casey (Jeanette Grunow) Blomquist, Cameron Blomquist, Gerad (Misty) Paul, Travis (Calley) Paul; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; step grandchildren, Sheri (Tom) Hopkins, Owen (Roxanne) Carlson, Kurt (Lori) Carlson; several nieces and nephews. Bernice was preceded in death by her husbands, Clifford Blomquist and Clarence Carlson; daughter, Dianne Miller; her parents; brother, James Melberg and her grandparents. Funeral: Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, Battle View, ND. Visitation and Prayer Service: Visitation will be Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Powers Lake, ND.
