Bernice E. Carlson • 1907 - 2002

Bernice E. Carlson, 94, Kenmare, died Monday, November 11, 2002, in the Kenmare Hospital.

The Rev. Bernice E. Carlson was born December 9, 1907, to Albert and Julia (Erickson) Adamson at Watson, MN. She was educated in the Watson and Montevideo Public Schools. She attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, ID, and graduated from the Chicago Evangelistic Institute (later called Vernard College) in 1938. She was ordained to the ministry in the Church of the Nazarene on June 13, 1941. On September 26, 1941, she married the Rev. Melvin Carlson at Milan, MN.

Rev. Carlson served as pastor at Harvey and Norma, ND. After her marriage, she assisted her husband in pastorates in Edmunds, Dickinson, Denhoff, Grafton and Park River, ND, and at Viborg, SD. In addition to her ministry, she served as supply and interim pastor in various churches in North and South Dakota, an activity she continued for many years after her retirement in July of 1985. That same year, she moved with her husband, Melvin, to Kenmare. Her husband died on November 11, 2001, in Kenmare. She continued to live and reside there until the time of her death.

Survivors: Son, Melvin Carlson, Amherst, MA; daughter, Judith L. Miller and husband David, Eagle River, AK; grandson, Adam C. Miller, Eugene, OR; brother, William Adamson, Milan, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Lillian Kittelson, Laverna Disinger, Irene Johnson, Edith Waldron and Mae Tinsen Wranovsky; and brother, Herb Adamson.

Funeral Service: Thursday, November 14, 2002, 10:30 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, Kenmare, ND.

Visitation: One hour prior to service time at the Church of the Nazarene, Kenmare, ND.

Burial: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kenmare, ND
