Samuel Buxcel 1924 - 2011 Samuel Evald Buxcel was born November 4, 1924 in Stamford, SD, to Theodore and Christina (Frank) Buxcel. He was raised and attended school in that area. On December 16, 1944 Samuel enlisted in the United States Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on November 29, 1946 and returned to South Dakota. Samuel married Elnora “Ellie” Kaplan in 1969 and they later divorced. Sam owned and operated the 76 Bar, otherwise known as Sam’s Place in Philip, SD for numerous years. He later moved to Hot Springs, where he owned and operated the Cascade Bar and Grill. Sam worked and retired from the VA Center in Hot Springs, SD. In 1982 Sam married Marlis Wass. They made their home in Hot Springs, SD until 2005, when they moved to Gillette, WY. Marlis passed away on January 31, 2009. Following her death Samuel moved to Minot, ND to be near his son, Robin. Sam was a member of the American Legion Post #71 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #1640, both in Hot Springs, SD. While living in Minot he was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Sam truly enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, and he loved gardening and hunting. Those who shared in his life, Son, Robin (fiancée Dana Goff) Buxcel, Granville, ND; stepchildren, Rodney (Jeri) Lang, Klamath Falls, OR; Marty (Kathy) Brewer, Darby, MT; Glenn (Linda) Brewer, and Velda Palen, all of Prosser, WA; Patti (Joe) Hereford, Huntsville, TN; Rick (Bonnie) Wass, Douglas, WY; Janet Sechser, Belle Fourche, SD; Teresa (Lacy) Michael, Jeff (Wanda) Wass, and Ann (Von) Ochsner, all of Gillette, WY; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Rosa Masteller, Rapid City, SD; brothers, Alfred Buxcel, Rapid City, SD, and George Buxcel, Box Elder, SD; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Marlis; his parents; brothers, Eltor, Reuben and Albert; sisters, Alvena and Clara, stepson, Mike Wass.
