Eugene J. Burke 1928 - 2003 Eugene J. Burke, 86, 404 32nd Ave SW, died Tuesday in a Minot nursing home. He was born on October 7, 1917, on the Burke Homestead, Passport township, Ward County, the son of John E. and Carrie (St. Peter) Burke. He was reared in Passport township and educated in Hartland. On December 26, 1942, he married Ethel Black at St. Ann's Church, Berthold. They lived in the Berthold area where Gene farmed and Ethel taught school. In 1946, they moved to Granville until returning to the Burke homestead in 1948. In 1956 they moved to the Black family farm. Gene worked for several years at the Minot Livestock and later for Northern Livestock. He also worked for the Ward County Highway Department from 1970 until retiring in 1983. Three years later they moved to rural Burlington and have been residing in Minot for the past five years. Gene was an avid horseman during his life. Gene and Ethel where members of the Minot Trail Riders and the Mid West Chariot Club, where they both raced chariots for six years. Gene was also a long-time supporter of the Blaisdell Rodeo. He was also a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, Berthold, St. John Apostle Catholic Church, Minot and was a former member of the Moose Lodge and the Eagles, both of Minot. Survivors: wife, Ethel, Minot; son, William "Bill" Burke and his wife, Elaine, Douglas; grandchildren, Lori and Tracy Burke, Michelle Haman and Travis (Bobbie) Burke; great-grandchildren, Amanda, Cody and Crysta; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Burke, Mohall; sister, Agnes Larcombe, Minot; niece, Carolynn (Jon) Peterson and nephews, Richard (Cindy) and Wayne (Lola) Larcombe. He was preceded in death by his son, Gerald "Jerry" Burke, parents, John and Carrie Burke and his twin sister and an infant brother. Funeral Mass: Friday, 11:00 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church, Minot. Visitation and vigil prayer service: Thursday from noon until 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home with a prayer service there at 7:00 p.m. Burial: Wildrose Cemetery, Berthold, ND at 2:00 p.m. Celebrant of the Liturgies: Father David Zimmer Music: "All That We Have" "On The Wings
