Mary Magdalene Burckhard 1922 - 2010 Mary Burckhard, 88, Minot, ND, died Thursday, March 18, 2010, at Trinity Homes in Minot. Mary Magdalene Jundt was born March 16, 1922, a daughter of John and Stephina (Voeller) Jundt, in Rugby, ND. She was raised and educated in Rugby. At age 16, she moved with her family to a farm near Fulda, ND. On January 12, 1943, Mary married Michael G. Burckhard in Fulda, ND. From this union, 12 children, six boys and six girls, were born. They made their home in Yakima, WA, for short time, before moving back to North Dakota. They then made their home in Minot until 1966, when they moved to Grand Forks. They later moved to Seattle, WA. Mike passed away July 13, 1968. Following her husband’s death, Mary then moved back to Minot, where she was left to raise nine of their children at the time. Her main priority was to raise her children in a Christian home, along with daily Mass, the Rosary, and having a strong Catholic faith. Though the times were very demanding, Mary raised her children without any outside help. She baked, cooked, and cleaned without any complaints. There was nothing that was too much work when it came to her family. Mary had worked at the Minot State University Student Union as a cook for 17 years. She later retired and spent endless hours with her grandchildren, teaching almost all of them how to pray the rosary. In 2003, due to illness, Mary entered the nursing home, still never complaining about the pain she endured or the crosses she bore. Her faith and family was the light of her world, and she was the light of the world to her family. Mary is survived by: six boys and six girls, Ray (Lynn) Burckhard, Maryann Hanson, Barbara (Conrad) Koble, Dave (Peggy) Burckhard, John (Lisa) Burckhard, Mike (Phyllis) Burckhard, Beverly (Randy) Thom, Kathy Newman, Jim (Kim) Burckhard, Mark (Michelle) Burckhard, Joan (Chuck) Massey, and Janice (Ron) Burckhard; 60 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; brothers, Peter Jundt, Leo (Ramona) Jundt, Roy (Joan) Jundt, Joe (Janis) Jundt, and Nick Jundt; two sisters, Carolyn Jundt and Sister Mary Louise Jundt, OSF, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike; brother, John Jundt; sons in law, Gordie Hanson and Warren Newman; and one great grandchild, Alex Meyer.
