Harold Bruhn 1925 - 2011 Harold Delos Bruhn was born August 4, 1925, a son of Fred and Olga (Vrolson) Bruhn, in Plaza, ND. He was raised and educated in Palermo/Blaisdell area. He attended Columbus High School in Palermo, ND. He later attained his G.E.D. from Columbus High School. Harold enlisted in the United States Army December 11, 1943, at Ft. Snelling, Minnesota. Upon completion of his basic training, he was stationed at Granite City, Illinois. In July of 1944, he was stationed in New Guinea. He proudly served his country during WWII, and was awarded the Phillipine Liberation Medal with one Bronze Service Star, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged April 9, 1946, at Ft. Lewis, Washington. Following his honorable discharge, he stayed in Japan for a time before returning to North Dakota. Harold married Gladys Estelle “Happy” Aasen August 25, 1956, at Zion Lutheran Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where he owned and operated Carter Filling Station for a few years. He then began his career as a civil service employee with a position at the Pride Building at the Minot Air Force Base. While living in Minot, he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He then transferred to the U.S. Weather Service, and moved to Renner, SD. While living there, they were members of Peace Lutheran Church. He worked there until 1978, when he transferred to Roy, Utah. While living there, they were members of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Sunset, Utah. He retired as a civil service employee after 30 years of service. Following his retirement, he and Happy traveled extensively. Happy passed away January 10, 2003. Following his wife’s death, he continued to reside in Roy, Utah, until 2006, when he moved to Minot. He was a member of the American Legion Post, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge. Working was Harold’s hobby. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed staying busy. He also loved to cook and entertain. He and Happy especially enjoyed dancing. His loving family includes: daughter, Susan (George) Summers, Minot; grandchildren, Dana (Sarah) Summers and their children, Liz, Alyx, Keegan, and Caitlyn; Dawn Summers and her son, Bryan; Pete Summers and his son, George; and Robby Summers (Lisa Jensen) and their son, Logan; five great-great-granddaughters, Kaley, Haley, Mckenna, Hayden and Taylor.
