Raymond Bruce 1928 - 2005 Raymond Bruce, 77, 305 8th Ave NE, a Minot resident for over 40 years, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2005, at a Minot nursing home. Born on July 29, 1928 in Belcourt, North Dakota to Alfred "Tom" Bruce and Elizabeth Smith Bruce. Raymond helped farm his family's land where he became skillful in hunting and horse riding. He attended a boarding school in Stephan, South Dakota through the fifth grade when he left school to help support his family. His father passed away on December 18, 1941. He entered the United States Marines on January 22, 1952. He proudly served his country in the Korean Theatre of Operations where he was wounded on December 28, 1952. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal on January 14, 1953 for wounds received in action. He was also awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Stars, the U.N. Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Raymond was honorably discharged on February 28, 1954. Raymond supported his family by working many construction jobs throughout North Dakota as a union sheet metal worker. His projects included the Garrison Dam, Minot Air Force Base, the Midwest Federal Building, the Town and Country Center, various power plants, missile sites and others too numerous to mention. He worked for many years at Western Sheet Metal where he eventually became a co-owner. He is a former president Sheet Metal Local #14, and a retired member of Local Union #10. Following his retirement in 1989, he enjoyed metal work as well as woodcarving. Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Joseph, Ernest, and Lawrence and sisters, Amelia and Delores, as well as two siblings who died in infancy. Raymond is survived by and has the everlasting love of his sister, Irene Delorme of Belcourt, North Dakota, his brother, Albert Bruce and his wife Beverly of Highmore, South Dakota, his sister, Evelyn Belman and her husband Barry of Dixon, Illinois, his son, Damon Bruce and his wife Susan of Bensenville, Illinois, his daughter, Diane Jones and her husband Dave of Victorville, California, his daughter, Bonnie Bruce of Redlands, California, his son Ray T. Bruce of Minot, North Dakota, his daughter, Kathryn Heckathorn and her husband Danny of Des Moines, Iowa, his daughter, Melinda Morrow and her husband Todd of Marrietta, Ohio, his son, Earl Bruce of Arnegard, North Dakota, and his daughter, Nicolle Trimmer of Minot, North Dakota. He is survived by 16 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by Bernita Boyer. Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, September 2, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Minot, ND. Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND. Visitation: Thursday from 3:00 until 7:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
