Leo Brown Sr. PhotoLeo D. Brown, Sr., 56, Minot, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Trinity Cancer Care Cottage in Minot.

Leo was born May 29, 1954 in Memphis, TN, the son of Ralph Brown, Sr. and Elizabeth (Jackson) Brown.  He was raised in the south and graduated from O. Perry Walker High School in Algiers, LA in 1972.  He later graduated from Minot State University.

On February 3, 1976 he entered the United States Army.  While in the Army he was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX as a Medical Corpsman.  Leo was honorably discharged on February 2, 1979.  Following his military service he worked in the construction trades.  In 2006 he started his own business, Global Rain Gutters.

Leo married Joette (Swenson) Heim on June 30, 2007 at the Gol Stave Church in the Scandinavian Heritage Park in Minot.  They made their home in the local community.  Leo said he knew she was the one the moment he saw her.

Leo enjoyed working, singing and entertaining with Fun Tyme Karaoke.  He generously gave of his vocal talents to nursing and assisted living homes throughout Minot and the surrounding areas.  His favorite pastimes were camping, fishing and hunting with Joette.  One of his greatest achievements was ascending to the peak of Mount Fuji in Japan.  He also had a love for coaching children’s softball.

A well respected member of the community, he was generous of spirit and a caring and compassionate confidante.  He encouraged people to strive for their goals while still maintaining their individual integrity.  Living each day to the fullest, Leo pursued his passions.  His presence would light up a room and the lives of those he touched everyday.  With a kind heart, Leo never hesitated to lend a helping hand.  All of our lives were enriched by his warmth and kindness which will never be forgotten.
