Magne Brothen 1921- 2010 Magne was born on July 3, 1921, a son of Carl and Randi (Hallum) Brothen in Columbus, ND. Magne was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, which was built by his father seven miles south of Columbus. He attended grade school in a one room rural school, which was built by his father, and attended high school in Columbus. Magne assisted his father and brothers with the operation of the family homestead. On July 31, 1954, Magne was united in marriage to Betty Peterson in Columbus. They made their home in Minot, where Magne was in the decorating business with his brother Edmund for several years, before going to work for Feist Construction and later with Craft Builders both of Minot. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church, Minot. Magne was very talented in music. His father purchased him an accordion at the age of 12. He was a self taught musician, being able to play the accordion, violin, bass guitar and piano. For many years he was active with the country western band “Tones Of Country.” Magne also enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and playing cards at family events. He is survived by: Wife of 56 years, Betty, Minot; Son: Darvin (Tammy) Brothen, Minot; Four grandchildren: Nicole and Ryan Brothen, Minot; Daren (Britt) Lorenz , Aberdeen, SD, Derek Lorenz, Minot; son-in-law: David Lorenz, Minot; Brother: Ed (Helen) Brothen, Brooklyn Park, MN; sisters-in-law: Edna Brothen, Fargo, Eldora Brothen, Minot; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Magne was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Deanna Lorenz, brothers Alvin, Clarence, Palmer, Lorry and Evald, who died during WWII.
