Irene C. Brockey 1919 - 2009

Irene Brockey PhotoIrene C. Brockey, 90, Minot, died Tuesday, October 06, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Irene C. Theis was born on October 6, 1919, a daughter of Nicholas and Mary Theis on the family farm near Lansford, ND. She was raised and educated in Lansford, graduating at the age of 16 from Lansford School. Following her graduation she moved to Minot and began working at Ellison’s Department store. 

On October 28, 1941, she was united in marriage to Frank E. Brockey in Wolf Point, MT. They made their home in Minot, where Irene worked as a manager at the lunch counter and coffeehouse for both F. W. Woolworth’s and Sears. Frank died November 26, 1988. Following his death, she continued to live in Minot  

Irene was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, where she was active with the Catholic Daughter of America. She was also a member of the Moose Lodge, where she enjoyed dancing with her husband. Irene also served as a square dance caller. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading romantic and religious novels and attending threshing shows.

Those who shared in her life: Daughter Irene Mary (Andy) Rassier, Grand Forks, ND;
Ten grandchildren: Gwendy (Tim), Damien, Adam (Sara), Seth, Kristy, Deborah, Grant, Brian, Lance and J.J.; nine great-grandchildren: Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Frank Sr., sons John and Frank Jr., three sisters Matilda, Esther and Loretta, three brothers Sylvester, Raymond and Alvin and life long friend Mary Lou Lyght.

Visitation: Thursday, October 8, 2009 from 2-7 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Vigil Prayer Service: Thursday, October 8, 2009 at 7 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, October 9, 2009 at 10 am at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Minot

Burial: Rosehill Memorial park, Minot.
