Reuben J. Bretheim, 85, 1521 S Main St, Minot, died Wednesday, January 3, 2007, in his home.

Reuben was born August 1, 1921, to the Reverend Gilbert and Hilda (Tollefson) Bretheim in Vang, ND. They moved to Harvey and that is where he graduated from High School.

He attended Coyne Electrical College in Chicago. He then joined the civil service branch of the Signal Corps. He continued his education at UND in Grand Forks and then transferred to Philadelphia to finish his education.

On July 9, 1944, he married Dolores Hanson in Harvey, ND. In 1947, he started working for Northwestern Electric in Minot as an Apprentice. He became a Journeyman and then a Master in 1951. He purchased a share of Northwestern Electric in 1951 and became sole owner in 1971.

For a number of years, he was involved with the NECA chapter where he served on the board of the Local JATC as director and on the apprenticeship and labor management negotiating committees.

Reuben was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie, Country Club, and the Sertoma Club.

He enjoyed his lake home at Lake Metigoshe and took pride in his garden and watching his children and grandchildren grow up at the lake.

Reuben is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dolores; son, Paul (Patty) Bretheim, Minot; daughters, Dianne (Richard) Gleason, St. George, Utah, and Bette (Bill) Grosche, Minot; seven grandchildren, Gregory (Kit) Gleason, Sioux Falls, SD, Michael Gleason, Phoenix, AZ, Travis (Tiffany) Grosche, Brent (Bianca) Grosche, Jeffrey (Stacey) Grosche, Shonda and Eric Bretheim, all of Minot; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, David (Pat) Bretheim, Minneapolis, MN, and Ben (Hildur) Bretheim, Everett WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Marcus and Gerhard.

Funeral: Monday, January 8, 2007, at 1:30 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot.

Visitation: Sunday, January 7, 2007 from noon-5:00 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home.

Burial: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot.
