Lloyd R. Brekhus, 93, Grand Forks, formerly of Kenmare, ND, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Valley Memorial Wheatland Terrace, Grand Forks , ND .
Lloyd Raymond Brekhus was born August 29, 1917, in rural Kenmare, ND, to Henry and Anna(Skjerveggen) Brekhus. He attended Rockford School No. 4.
On July 19, 1941, he married Beatrice M. Knutson. Following their marriage they lived, farmed and raised their family on the farm near Kenmare. In October of 2001 they moved to Minot and lived in a retirement home. In December of 2005 they moved to Valley Memorial in Grand Forks. Beatrice passed away on December 20, 2008.
Lloyd spent most of his life farming but did enjoy his time spent on men's bowling league which was about the only thing that would take priority over his farming. He enjoyed having his grandchildren visit them on the farm. One of his favorite pastimes was going to auction sales. During the long, cold winters he spent many hours playing Scrabble and setting jigsaw puzzles. He was an active member at Evanger Lutheran Church.
He is survived by; sons, Roger (Judy) Brekhus, Rockford, IL and Jerry (Betty) Brekhus, Red Lodge, MT; daughter, Lois (Roger) Parkinson, Grand Forks, ND; seven grandchildren, Keith (Elizabeth) Brekhus, Wayne (Rachael) Brekhus, Cary (Michelle) Parkinson, Chadwick (Ali) Parkinson, Caela (Paul) Slaathaug, Jason Brekhus and Jon Brekhus; four great-grandchildren, Adam Parkinson, Ava Parkinson, Eden Parkinson and Zakary Slaathaug; brother, Hartman Brekhus, Douglas AZ, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice; parents, Henry and Anna Brekhus and brothers, Ludvig, Julius, Rosvel, Adolph and sisters Thelma Johnson, Bernice Munter, Bertha Morris and Rose Crager.
Funeral: Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Evanger Lutheran Church , rural Norma, ND .
Visitation: Friends may sign the register Tuesday one hour prior to the service in the church.
Burial: Evanger Lutheran Cemetery , rural Norma.
