Beatrice M. Brekhus 1919 - 2008 Beatrice Marie Brekhus was born September 7, 1919, rural Kenmare, ND, an identical twin to Keith and Gunda (Johnson) Knutson. She was raised in that area and graduated from Kenmare High School. Beatrice worked as a live in housekeeper until she married Lloyd Brekhus on July 19, 1941. Following their marriage they lived, farmed and raised their family on the farm near Kenmare. In October of 2000 they moved to Minot and lived in a retirement home. In December of 2005 they moved to Valley Memorial in Grand Forks. Beatrice enjoyed gardening, raising beautiful flowers, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and relatives. During the long, cold winters she spent many hours playing Scrabble and setting jigsaw puzzles. She was known for her bun making and bringing confetti angel food cakes for all the church gatherings at Evanger Lutheran Church. She was an active member at Evanger Lutheran Church and the Evanger Ladies Aid. She taught Sunday School, vacation Bible school and directed the children's Christmas program for several years. Those who shared in her life, husband, Lloyd, Grand Forks; sons, Roger (Judy) Brekhus, Rockford, IL and Jerry (Betty) Brekhus, Red Lodge, MT; daughter, Lois (Roger) Parkinson, Grand Forks, ND; seven grandchildren, Keith (Elizabeth) Brekhus, Wayne (Rachel) Brekhus, Cary (Michelle) Parkinson, Chadwick (Ali) Parkinson, Caela (Paul) Slaathaug, Jason Brekhus and Jon Brekhus; three great-grandchildren, Adam Parkinson, Ava Parkinson and Eden Parkinson; brothers, Casper Knutson and Knute Knutson, both of Kenmare, Victor (Alma) Knutson, Minot and Clifford (Phyllis) Knutson, Fergus Falls, MN; twin sister, Mildred Mugaas, Thief River Falls, MN; sisters, Genevieve Gates, Minot, ND and Florence Nesland, Seal Beach, CA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, Keith and Gunda Knutson and brother, Silas Knutson. Funeral: Saturday, December 27, 2008 at 12:00 p.m. at Evanger Lutheran Church, rural Norma, ND. Visitation: Friends may sign the register Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m. at the church. Burial: Evanger Lutheran Cemetery, rural Norma.
