Melvin Braunberger 1928 - 2008

Melvin Braunberger, 79, Minot, died Sunday, January 20, 2008 in a Minot hospital with his wife and Pastor Jennings by his side.

Melvin was born on December 17, 1928, in Benedict, ND, the son of Benjamin and Alvina (Hager) Braunberger. He was raised and educated in Benedict.

On November 30, 1951, he entered the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars and the UN service medal; He was honorably discharged on August 28, 1953.

Upon his return from the war, he purchased the family farm. On January 19, 1958, he was united in marriage to Shirley Berg. They lived on the farm, where they raised dairy cattle and small grains. Melvin also operated a butcher shop. In 1986, they sold the farm and moved to California. They were employed by Vandenberg Properties, and managed apartment complexes in Tulare, Oakdale, Martinez and Visalia. In 1995, Melvin and Shirley moved to Minot, ND, where he was employed by Thoraldson Properties and Magic Spas. Due to health reasons, Melvin retired in 2005.

Melvin and Shirley attended Our Redeemers Lutheran Brethren Church. His faith and his family were the most important things in his life. Along with farming, Melvin served on numerous boards: McLean County Township board, Max School board, Benedict Elevator Board and the Benedict Church of the Nazarene. He was active in the Benedict church as a Sunday School teacher.

Wife Shirley, Minot; children: LyNelle (Greg) Hatlestad, Chandler, AZ, Ranae (Bruce) Schmidt, Beulah, ND, Keith (Laura) Braunberger, Minot, ND, Kevin (Jessicia) Braunberger, Brentwood, CA; 10 grandchildren, 1 great grandson. Siblings: Freeda (Ross) Culvert, Lewistown, MT, Ben Braunberger, Fondu Lac, WI and Bernie (Dennis) Williams, Renton, WA: Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Infant daughter Tari Lynn, brothers Walter and Leonard and sisters Carolyn and Elaine.

Visitation: Wednesday, January 23, 2008 from 2-7 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Funeral Service: Thursday, January 24, 2008, at 1 p.m. at Our Redeemers Lutheran Brethren Church, Minot.

Burial: Thursday at 3:30 p.m. at the Church of God Cemetery, rural Max, ND.
