Nathan Bourquin 1987 - 2003

Nathan Allan Bourquin, 15, 1716 4th St. SW, Minot, died Wednesday, January 22, 2003, in a Minot hospital from complications with pneumonia.

Nathan was born on October 30, 1987, in Minot, ND, the son of Barry and Marie (Hagen) Bourquin. At four months of age, he was diagnosed at the University of Minnesota Children's Hospital with Dandy Walker Syndrome. At six months, he was enrolled in the Infant Development Program at Minot State University, where in-home instruction and therapies began. At the age of three, he began to ride the bus to attend the special education programs through Souris Valley Special Services at Perkett Grade School for nine years and Ramstad Middle School for three years. Nathan was blessed with his daycare provider, Kim Mitzel, of 15 years. His brothers, Colton and Sutton, were his after school caregivers, as of the start of this year.

Nathan had a special color, orange, and always carried one of his 72 orange hammers with him. With his family, he also enjoyed many events. They included going to the Minnesota Twins games, eating out, attending birthday parties and the ND State Fair, visiting the zoo, going to his brothers' baseball games and enjoying local summer theater. For the last seven years, Nathan and his family had vacationed at Red Wing Lodge, Walker, MN (where Nathan was an official beach bum). His music enjoyment began as a baby in his church balcony, where he listened to the choir rehearse and perform.
He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and Souris Valley Special Services, both of Minot.
