Michael Bossert 1915 - 2010 Michael J. Bossert was born April 14, 1915, a son of John and Elizabeth (Boehm) Bossert, in Karlsruhe, ND. Mike was raised with his six brothers and sisters in Karlsruhe, where he attended elementary school and was a Boy Scout. He graduated from Drake High School and later attended the University of North Dakota (UND) in Grand Forks. In 1942, at the age of 27, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in June 1943. Later that year, Mike completed law school at UND and was admitted to the State Bar Association. Upon the death of his father in 1947, Mike and his brother, Fred, assumed the operation of the family-owned business in Karlsruhe, Bossert Hardware and Implement, that also served as the regional John Deere dealership. Bossert Hardware and Implement proudly served Karlsruhe and the surrounding farming community until 1982. As a dedicated member of the Karlsruhe community, Mike served in the position of City Clerk and Assessor for many years. He was a member of the Karlsruhe Public School Board and for a time he served as treasurer. He attended Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Karlsruhe throughout his life and was a proud member of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society, the Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion. He was an elected member of the North Dakota Silver Haired Legislature with a goal of influencing legislation affecting the elderly. After moving to Minot in 1998, Mike attended Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. He had lived at Somerset Court since 2007. Mike was an avid reader and as reflected by his extensive library, had a particular interest in U.S. history. Many of his beloved books are now held by the Velva Public Library. He was an enthusiastic woodworker and produced a variety of wooden toys and decorative items. Mike could often be seen with a camera capturing images of nature or his many nieces and nephews who all held a special place in his heart. He loved to garden and took pride in the fruits and vegetables reaped from his labors as well as the profuse displays of annual blooms resulting from his green thumb. Mike found it easy to smile and laugh, and possessed a grand sense of humor. He enjoyed engaging people in conversation and thrilled at telling stories of times past. He took great pleasure in the simpler aspects of life and always demonstrated a generous and unselfish spirit. Mike will be forever remembered and memories of his kind and gentle soul cherished. Mike is survived by his sister, Mary Klein, Fargo; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Ray Klein, Minot; 14 nieces and nephews.
