Cecil Booth 1924 - 2008 Cecil was born on January 11, 1924, the son of Vance D. and Alma A. (Schoenwald) Booth near Sawyer, ND. He was raised and educated in Sawyer. On January 26, 1944, he enlisted into the United States Army. He fought in the 76th Infantry Division with General Patton's Third Army at the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. Cecil received the certificate of merit, European-African -Middle Eastern theater service medal, and two overseas bars. He was honorably discharged on May 1, 1946. Following his discharge, Cecil was united in marriage to Carole Severson on November 4, 1946, in Sidney, MT. They made their home in Minot, where Cecil worked for Westlie Motor Company as a Service manager for 29 years. In 1958, Cecil purchased the Bill Schilling farm, which was near the Booth homestead. He and his brother Robert farmed together for many years. During retirement, Cecil and Carole traveled in their RV visiting their children and grandchildren in Texas and Wisconsin and traveling in the southwest with his sister Lila and her husband Bob. Cecil was a member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva, the Velva Rural Fire Department, and the Velva American Legion. He also served on the McHenry County Soil Conservation Board. He dearly loved his wife and family. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt, treasured his farm and was a steward of the land. He enjoyed cars, trucks, old tractors and was a Ford enthusiast. Cecil was a loyal employee and friend of the Westlie family. Those who shared in his life, Wife of 61 years, Carole, Minot; son: Ken (Clair) Booth, Kerrville, TX; daughter: Karen (Jayme) Anderson, DeForest, WI; five grandchildren: Sandy (Jay) Haman, Natalie Booth, Symmantha Booth, Tyler (Amber) Anderson and Molly Anderson; three great-grandchildren: Kyle Haman, Katie Haman and Wyatt Anderson; brother: Robert (Dolores) Booth, Sawyer, ND; sister: Lila (Robert) Schlecht, Longview, WA; sister-in-law, JoAnn Booth, Longview, WA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Vance and Alma Booth; brothers Donald Booth and Edward Booth Visitation: There will be no reviewal, however friends may sign a register book on Friday, March 21, 2008 from 2-7 at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Memorial Service: Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva Burial: A private family burial will take place at a later time. Memorials are preferred to Oak Valley Lutheran Church, or donor's choice. Officiant: Rev.
