Mavis Bomstad, 74, Kenmare, formerly of rural Palermo, died Thursday, December 4, 2008 in the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley.

Mavis I. Hanson was born December 12, 1933 in Blaisdell, ND, the daughter of Ted and Gladys (Gandrud) Hanson. She was raised in that area and attended school in Blaisdell and later Niobe, ND.

On August 13, 1951 Mavis married Ernest Bomstad in Fertile, MN. They made their home on the Bomstad family farmstead in Sidonia Township, Mountrail County, north of Palermo, ND for over 40 years. In 1992 they retired and moved into Kenmare. While living in Kenmare Mavis and Ernie helped their daughter at Cindy's Café. Ernie passed away on December 31, 2000. Mavis continued to help at the café until 2007.

Mavis was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Coulee, ND and served as treasurer of the ladies aid for 30 years. She also served as secretary treasurer for Sidonia Township for many years. Mavis enjoyed doing fancy stitch work, playing "lots" of card and she enjoyed the company of family and friends. She always had some type of new dessert for those at the restaurant, or for those who stopped by her home to try out. You very seldom had the same dessert twice at her house.

Mavis was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend who will be missed. On this special day we honor our mother's 75th birthday.
