Leander A. Boechler 1925 - 2009

Leander Boechler PhotoLeander A. Boechler, 84, Minot, died Thursday, November 26, 2009 in a Minot hospital.

Leander Boechler was born on February 23, 1925, a son of John and Julianna (Merck) Boechler on the family farm, north of Karlsruhe, ND. He was raised and educated in the Karlsruhe area.

On October 26, 1948, Leander was united in marriage to Catherine Burckhard in Towner, ND. They made their home in Towner, where Leander worked at Mobil Oil. In 1967, they moved to Minot, where he began working for the North Dakota State Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator. He retired in 1983.  

Leander was a member of the St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Minot. He enjoyed woodworking, making each grandchild a rocking horse and making birdhouses. He also enjoyed hunting, doing yard work and meeting with former co-workers. .  

Those who shared in his life:  Wife of 61 years Catherine, Minot; Children: Wayne (Jenelle) Boechler, Traverse City, MI, Larry (Cindy) Boechler, Rosemount, MN, Todd (Darci Rae) Boechler, Minot, Sheldon Boechler, Fortuna, CA, Kurt Boechler, Sawyer, ND, Linda Boechler, Minot, Verna Scott, Fargo, ND, Karen (Kent) Engle, Velva, Julie (David) Steen, Minot; brother: Ray Boechler, Sherwood, OR; sisters: Olivia Burckhard, Minot, Monica Dexheimer, Tigard, OR, Irene Lauinger, Garrison, ND, Eileen Schatz, Velva; 16 Grandchildren: Christopher (Elizabeth) Boechler, Jason (Tonya) Scott, Jeri Scott, Jennifer Boechler, Jayme (Jessica) Boechler, Jodi Boechler, Amanda, Sarah, Garrett Boechler, Karisa (Matthew) Carr, Luke (Rebecca) Steen, Alex and Matthew Boechler, Christina, Cory, and Carly Boechler; Five Great-grandchildren: Emma Scott, Mattaya and Makenna Carr, Mikaela Hallamyer, Layne Jelleberg;  Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Leander was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Emanuel, Fred, Otto, Edward, sisters Bertha, Veronica and Loretta.

Visitation:  There will be no reviewal, however friends may sign a register book on Monday from noon until 6 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot

Vigil Prayer Service:  Monday at 6 pm in the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home Chapel, Minot

Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at 11:30 am at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Minot

Burial:  Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot
