Elroy "Buster" Bly 1924 - 2011

Buster Bly photoElroy “Buster” Bly, 82, Minot, formerly of Lignite, died Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in a Minot hospital.

Buster was born on March 24, 1928, a son of Joey and Gladys (Lindquist) Bly in Portal , ND. He was raised and educated through the eighth grade in Lignite area.

In 1951, Buster enlisted into the US Army. He served on the front lines during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1952.

On June 20, 1954, Buster was united in marriage to Glaudia R. Wade at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Kenmare, ND. They made their home on the farm until 2001, when they moved to Minot. For several years they wintered in Mesa, AZ. Glaudia died March 15, 2010.

Buster became a member of the St. John The Baptist Catholic Church of Portal after St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Lignite closed. He was active member of St. Mary’s Cemetery board for a number of years. Buster was also a member of the Lignite American Legion for 57 years, VFW member, 5th RCT Association and the Minot Moose Lodge.

Buster enjoyed farming, and in later years making toys and bowls out of oak wood. He also enjoyed family camping and fishing trips.

Surviving relative:
                Daughter Dianna (Eugene Davidson) Bly, Minot.  Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Buster was preceded in death by his parents Joey and Gladys, wife Glaudia, sisters Eloise Berger and a brother Duane Bly.

Visitation: Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, February 4, 2011 at 11 am at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Portal

Burial:  In the spring of 2011 at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Lignite, ND.

Immediately following the funeral mass, everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the fellowship hall of the church.

The graveside service will take place at a later date in the spring of 2011 with military honors.

The Bly family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Buster.
