Martin J. Bloms PhotoMartin J.  Bloms, 88, Minot, formerly of Lansford, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in a Grand Forks, ND nursing home.

Martin John Bloms was born December 9, 1922 on the family farm near Foxholm, ND to John and Margaret (Keller) Bloms.  He was raised in that area and attended Muskego Township School.  As a young man he worked on the Parker Ranch and helped on the family farm.

On June 25, 1944 Martin married Alice Feiring of Glenburn, ND.  They rented a farm west of Glenburn where they lived for five years.  In June of 1949 they purchased a farm south of Lansford where they farmed for 35 years.

Besides farming Martin did carpentry work during the winter months for numerous years and enjoyed doing woodworking projects.  He served as Lansford Township Assessor for several years.  In September of 1984 he retired and Martin and Alice moved to Minot where he continued his woodworking hobby.

Martin was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Lansford, where he had served as Trustee and while living in Minot he attended St. John the Apostle Catholic Church.  He was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus, the Eagles Aerie and the Moose Lodge, all in Minot.

In March of 2010 Martin and Alice moved to a senior living community in Grand Forks, where Alice will continue to reside. 

Those who shared in his life: Loving wife of 67 years, Alice, Grand Forks; daughter, LaVonne (Keith) Elliott, Fargo, ND; sons, Kenneth M. (Sherri) Bloms, St. Louis, MO and Joel D. (Deb) Bloms, Grand Forks, ND; six grandchildren, Mike (Amy) Elliott, Sioux Falls, SD, Chad (Sarah) Elliott, Fargo, Jason (Amy) Bloms, Peoria, Ill, Michelle (Jared) Bruns, Huntsville, AL, and Tyler and Kindra Bloms, both of Grand Forks; six great-granddaughters; sister, Bernice Redding, Minot; sisters-in-law, Garnet Bloms, Carpio, Mary Bloms and Marise Bloms, both of Minot; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive.

Martin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Bloms; brothers, Fred, Ralph, Daniel, Henry and Clarence Bloms; sisters, Margaret Savelkoul, Marie Hensen, Rosella Bradley and Helen Korgel.

Funeral:  Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, Minot, ND.

Visitation and vigil prayer service:  Visitation will be Tuesday, May 31, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the vigil prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND.

Burial:  Wednesday at 1:15 p.m. at Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Following the service everyone is invited to join the family for lunch and fellowship in the church fellowship hall.

Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to step to their vehicles by 1:00 p.m.  We will leave the north parking lot in procession.  Please drive with both headlights and hazard lights on.  Use caution at intersections.  At the cemetery, please double park and follow the family to the gravesite for the final prayers.

Our family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown during this difficult time.  Your thoughts and prayers are deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten.
