Delores Ann Black 1937 - 2011 Delores was born on September 8, 1937, in Drake, ND, the daughter of Peter and Magdalena (Keller) Volk. She was raised in Karlsruhe, ND, attending Sts. Peter and Paul Parochial School and graduating from Karlsruhe High School in 1955. Upon her graduating from High School, Delores attended the Sisters of Saint Francis School of Nursing in Minot, and attended Minot State University where she completed some courses in Nursing. She also worked as a student nurse and nursing assistant at Trinity Hospital in Minot and Good Samaritan Hospital in Rugby. Delores had to retire from working because of health issues, but when she worked as an aide in the hospital she received acknowledgement from the staff and patients on doing an excellent job. She had excellent rapport with the patients and was often called upon to interpret German for the geriatric patients. The last year of her life, as she wanted, was spent at the farm in Karlsruhe, where her husband, Lawrence, family and caregiver Debbie Skelly, gave her great and loving care. While her children were in school, Delores was a teacher’s aid, a room mother, and a member of the PTA. Delores was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Karlsruhe, and while in Minot was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. While at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, she was a Sunday School teacher where she taught second grade and assisted students in completing requirements necessary for First Holy Communion. Delores also helped plan church services for all occasions. Her main loves were her seven children and seven grandchildren. She was very active in her grandchildren’s lives and was so proud of all of them, especially when her grandson Cory got married, she wanted to stay the whole night at the dance. She welcomed and enjoyed the challenge of helping with Cliff and Brenda’s small children when the twins were born and her help was so appreciated. She loved music starting with the opera and the classics and she loved to see her children perform in concerts and at weddings. While raising her family on the farm she also had a great love for animals, especially for dogs and cats and later added rabbits. She always had them around her and when family would come to the farm, in the last year, with their dogs or cats, she enjoyed them.
