Allen M. "Alley"
Bertsch Allen M. "Alley" Bertsch, 66, 1720 4th St. SW, Minot, died Wednesday, October 12, 2005 in a Minot hospital. Allen "Alley" Bertsch was born on May 28, 1939, in Rugby, ND, the son of Walter and Pauline (Degenstein) Bertsch. He was reared and educated in Harvey and graduated from Harvey High School. Alley furthered his education at the North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, majoring in air conditioning and refrigeration. On September 4, 1958, he enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country before his honorable discharge on August 26, 1960. Following his discharge from the Army he was united in marriage to Mary Lou Helgeson on June 27, 1963, in Minot. The couple made their home in the Minot area, where Alley worked as an assistant manager for Kinney Shoe Store. In 1975, he started work at Morelli's Distributing Inc. in Minot. He continued to work at Morelli's, as a general manager until the time of his death. He and his wife were also co-owners of a number of businesses, including the Pioneer Bar in Harvey, the Chateau Lanes and Alley Cat Lounge in Minot, the Coyote Lanes in Williston, the Idle Hour Bar in Burlington, the Crooks Lounge and Lanes in Rugby, and L. Fisher Prints in Minot. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, the Minot Country Club, Eagles, Elks and Moose Lodges, American Legion, Knights of Columbus, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, all of Minot. He was also a member of the Minot Bowling Association, where he received the merit award. Alley was an avid golfer, where he scored two hole-in-ones, during his lifetime. He organized and was a major part of the Schmidt Light Golf Tournament in Minot, which benefited local junior golfers for 26 years. He is survived by: Wife of 42 years, Mary Lou, Minot; daughters: Andrea (Terry) Meyer, Minot, and Allycia (Patrick) Snell, McGaheysville, VA; son: Brent Bertsch, Surrey, ND; four grandchildren: Skylar Bertsch, Chandler Snell, Reegan Meyer, and Killian Snell; brothers: Jerome (Gloria) Bertsch, Lake Metigoshe, Larry (Irene) Bertsch, Burlington, ND, Gerald Bertsch, Bloomington, MN, and Ronald Bertsch, Bismarck, ND; sisters: Vi (Robert) Kalkopf, Townsend, WI, and Sheila Stamm, Sammamish, WA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Alley was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clarence and infant sister, Viola. Visitation: There will be no reviewal but friends may
