L. Lyle Bergeson 1916 - 2009

L. Lyle Bergeson, 93, Minot, formerly of Makoti, died Monday, April 6, 2009 in a Minot nursing home.

Lyle was born February 1, 1916 on the family farm, near Makoti, ND, a son of Peter and Carrie (Olson) Bergeson. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in the Makoti area. Lyle's father became disabled and unable to continue farming, so at an early age Lyle helped with the farming operations.

On July 31, 1942 Lyle married Helen Hetletvedt at Minot. They made their home on the family farm near Makoti, where they raised their family and farmed. He lived on the farm his entire life, until 2005 when he moved to Minot. Helen passed away on June 8, 1969.

On February 4, 1976 Lyle married Teresa Darling. She passed away on July 21, 1980.

Lyle served as Orlien Township Assessor for over 20 years. He worked at both Northern Livestock and Minot Livestock in Minot during his life. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti, the Moose Lodge, Minot and a former member of the Eagles Aerie, Minot. While living in Minot these last four years he enjoyed playing bingo at the Minot Senior Citizens and he always enjoyed a good game of pinochle.

Those who shared in his life, sons, Duane (Ardyce) Bergeson, Bismarck, ND and Rick (Doris) Bergeson, Minot; son-in-law, Bert Williams, Kenmare, ND; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; stepson, Jerry (Sherry) Darling, Minot and several other stepchildren and stepgrandchildren; sisters, Marion Anderson and Mildred Peterson both in Minot; brother, Melvyn (Lucille) Bergeson, Makoti; numerous nieces and nephews survive.

Lyle was preceded in death by his wives, Helen and Teresa; infant daughter, Donna Bergeson and daughter, Cheryl Williams; his parents, Peter and Carrie; brother, Leonard Olson and sister, Gladys Nush Peterson.

Funeral: Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, Makoti, ND.

Visitation: Monday, April 13, 2009, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Makoti, ND.
