Agnes O. Berge 1909- 2011

Agnes Berge PhotoAgnes O. Berge, 101, Minot, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at her residence, with her family by her side during her final days.

Agnes was born July 6, 1909, on the family homestead near Bergen, ND, to Ole and Emma (Winje) Bergstad.  She attended country school and later became nanny to her sisters children.

Agnes married Halsten Berge in 1930 and together they farmed in McLean County and after moving to Velva, ND farmed in McHenry County and Ward County.  Their wheat fields were vast and beautiful.  They were always interested in the newest farming technology.  She enjoyed having her children and close friends around her.

After retiring in 1975, Mr. Berge died in 1977.  They had traveled to Norway to visit family, friends and the local color of Halsten’s birth home of Oslo.

Agnes’ interests turned to growing beautiful flowers and was especially fond of pansies.  She loved to read and was a fan of Jeannette Oke’s books.  Always by her side was her youngest daughter caring for her during her declining years.

Agnes is survived by her daughters, Marcy (Merle) Hystad, Gillette, WY, Patricia (Ronald) Heizelman, Velva, ND, Laurel (James) West, Apple Valley, MN, and Linda Berge, Minot; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roy, Floyd, Bernard and Harry; sisters, Alice, Ocelia, Clarice and Harriet.

Funeral: Thursday, June 23, 2011, at 11:00 am at Our Redeemer’s Church, Minot.

Visitation: Wednesday, June 22, 2011 from 2 until 7 pm at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Burial: Thursday, June 23 at 2:00 pm at Velva Community Cemetery.

Memorials are preferred to be made to the Our Redeemer’s Radio Broadcast Ministry’s in Minot.

Following the funeral service everyone is invited join the family for lunch and fellowship in the fellowship hall of the church. 

The Berge family would like to thank everyone for the many acts of kindness shown to them during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten. May God bless the memory of Agnes.
