Gerald A. "Jerry"
Benson 1931 - 2005 Gerald A. "Jerry" Benson, 74, Minot, formerly of Surrey, ND, died Monday, April 25, 2005 in a Minot nursing home. Gerald was born April 23, 1931, in Bottineau, ND, the son of Leonard and Anna (Hillman) Benson. He moved to Upham with his parents for a few years and then the family moved to Milton, ND, where he was raised and educated. In 1952 he joined the United States Army and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in 1954. Following his discharge he worked construction in Greenland for several years. He was the jack of all trades and worked at different occupations over his life-time, including heavy equipment operator and mechanic. On December 14, 1965 he married Jeanne Usselman in Towner, ND. They lived in several different locations following Gerald's job until 1978 when they moved to Surrey, ND. While living in Surrey he was employed at Kemper Construction and later Porter Brothers, both in Minot. In his later years he worked for the City of Surrey at the Green Thumb. In December of 2004 they moved to Minot. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Surrey, and the Moose Lodge, Minot. Survivors: Wife, Jeanne Benson, Minot; daughters, Laurie Benson, Minot, Tammy (Eric) Frank, West Fargo, and Jeri Benson, Fargo; grandchildren, Andrew Benson, Jenna and Bethany Frank; sister, Leone Mitchell, East Grand Forks, MN; brother, Calvin Benson, Anaheim, CA; and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Anna Benson; sister, Gudrun Peekin, and brother, George Benson. Funeral: Friday, April 29, 2005, at 2:00 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, ND. Visitation: Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
