Ed Becktold 1919 - 2008 Edwin Becktold was born January 13, 1919, a son of Carl M. and Ruby L. (Rickenberger) Becktold in Sawyer, ND. He was raised and educated in Sawyer. Ed married Hazel "Mickey" Compton February 11, 1941, in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where they raised their three children. They owned and operated Eddie's Low Cost Homes, Radio City Gas and Grocery, Mickey's Trailer Court, Big 2 Truck Stop, and Becktold and Son Builders, before moving to Arizona. The couple enjoyed 60 years of marriage together. Mickey passed February 3, 2002. Ed continued to reside in Mesa until 2006, when he moved to Queen Creek, AZ, and had continued to reside there since. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and Eagles Aerie, both of Minot. He enjoyed building crafts and carpentry work. Surviving family includes: daughter, Peggy Halstengard and her husband, Ted, Queen Creek, AZ; sons, Gary Becktold and his wife, Carol, Snohomish, WA, and Leslie Becktold and his wife, Sue, Surrey, ND; nine grandchildren, Melodie Anderson, Tami Luscher, Mark Halstengard, Kristine Halstengard, Bridget Gray, Kim Ostlund, Jessica Hall, Cassi Connell, and Cody Becktold; 20 great-grandchildren; three great great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond, Leon and Alvin Bechtold; and numerous nieces, nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mickey; six sisters; and three brothers. Funeral: Friday, November 14, 2008, at Noon (12 p.m.)
