Hazel Baumgartner 1917 - 2002 Hazel G. Baumgartner, 85, 1320 5th Ave SE, Minot, ND, died Sunday, May 19, 2002, in a Minot nursing home. She was born February 28, 1917, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of John and Julia (Hansen) Ness. She was reared and educated at Rice Lake School number three. She married Steve Baumgartner in 1935, in Minot. The couple lived and farmed in the Rice Lake area. In 1966, they retired from farming but continued to live on the farm. Steve died on February 20, 1977, in Minot. Hazel moved to Minot in 1980 and continued to live here until her death. She was a former member of The Church of God in Ryder and she attended Jehovah's Witness Church in Minot. Hazel enjoyed feeding squirrels and birds in her neighborhood. Survivors: sons, Ronald Baumgartner (Laurella), Ryder, ND, Duane Baumgartner (Jolene), Minot, and Arlyn Baumgartner (Dawn) Columbia Falls, MT; daughter, Beverly Marum, Minot; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, her son, Marvin, her parents, brothers, Jim and Henry Ness, and two sisters, Anna Bluhm and Agnes Juelich. Funeral Service: Wednesday, May 22, 2002, at 10 a.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Visitation: Today Tuesday, May 21, 2002, from Noon until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
