Craig Bauer 1962- 2006 Craig was born on December 8, 1962, in Carrington, ND, the son of Bill and Marlys (Hewitt) Bauer. He graduated from Carrington High School in 1981 and then attended North Dakota State University (NDSU) for one year. He then graduated from Wahpeton State School of Science with a degree as an electrical tech. He was attending Minot State University and was three classes short of attaining his degree in Criminal Justice. After his degree in electrical tech, he went to work at Randy's Electric in Carrington and worked there until joining the Carrington Police Force in December of 1985. He worked for the Carrington Police force on and off until 1992. During this time he also sold insurance for NoDak Mutual and was part owner of the Dairy Queen in Carrington.
Craig trained at both the North Dakota Law-Enforcement Academy and in the field. Craig was called upon by other agencies for his knowledge and skills as both an instructor and investigator. Craig also coordinated and instructed students in the BCI Drug School. He started with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations as a special agent in May of 1992. Over the years he completed 2831 hours of training in the law enforcement field. Those hours of training included the areas of DEA Task force coordination school, meth lab certification, and was one of the very few law enforcement officers (less than 1%) that attend the FBI National Academy. At the time of his death, he was a special agent of North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations and for the last eight years, was the task force coordinator for the Ward County Narcotics Task Force, which is a multiple agency task force that includes the Minot Police Department, the Ward Country Sherriff's office and other state agencies). Craig was instrumental in establishing and coordinating the
rural Crime and Justice Center at Minot State University that
trains several law enforcement agencies throughout the area.
Craig was active in his families lives. He coached his children's softball and baseball teams, followed his daughter's volleyball teams and loved to hunt with his family in Carrington in the fall. He camped with his family and loved to work on his classic car "his first love." Craig is survived by his wife, Sandra Joan (Reimers) Bauer, Minot; children, Taryn Rae Bauer, Torie Louise Bauer, and Arie William Bauer, and beloved dog, Curly Sue, all of Minot; parents, William "Bill" and Marlys (Hewitt) Bauer, Carrington; brothers, Dr. Jay Allen (Cynthia D. Nowell) Bauer, Carrington, Lynn Edward Bauer, Sarasota, FL, and Marty Rae (Angie M. Wolfe) Bauer, Carrington; father and mother-in-law, Arnie and Rita Reimers, Jamestown; sisters-in-law, Jean (Dennis) Zerface, Garrison, Julie (Ross) Krueger, Long Beach, CA, Susan (Jerry) Thomas, Pingree, ND, Kerri (Roy) Ring, Minot ,Maria (Shane) Beach, Prior Lake, MN and Lori (Jason) Graves, Lonsdale, MN; brothers-in-law, Mark Reimers, Denver, CO and Aaron Reimers, Prior Lake, MN. Burial: Carrington Cemetery, Carrington, ND on Thursday, September 14, 2006 at 11 a.m. Visitation: Tuesday from noon until 5 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home and continuing at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Minot. Memorial are preferred to Craig's children's education fund. The Minot High School Volleyball Team as dedicated their September 19th game at Magic City Campus vs. Mandan High School to Craig.
