Elma Grace (Boyko) Batke
• 1928 - 2006 Elma Grace (Boyko) Batke, 77, Velva, died Monday, February 13, 2006, at a Velva nursing home. She was born on April 26, 1928, at Butte, ND, the daughter of Fred and Flossie (Alderman) Boyko. She attended elementary school in Butte and Brown Township, McHenry County. She graduated from Velva High School in 1946, and continued her education at Minot State Teachers College. After earning her teaching certificate, she taught rural school for 2 years. She married Reinhold E. Batke on July 23, 1948, at Max, ND. The couple farmed south of Sawyer in Brillion Township, Ward County for 12 years. They moved to Washburn, ND, where they lived for 6 years before moving to Velva. Reinhold died on February 17, 1988. She was a member of Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva and the Velva Senior Citizens. Elma enjoyed quilting, baking, gardening and bowling. Survivors: children, Judy (Tom) Hove, Powers Lake,
ND, Jane (Russ) Hutchison, Phoenix, AZ, Ardell (Janice) Batke,
Hazen, ND, Bonnie (David) Thom, Granville, ND and Coral (Allen)
Lorenz, Voltaire, ND; 13 grandchildren, Troy and Curtis Rieger,
Clayton and Patrick Hove, Jason Batke, Karyn Van Inwagen, Greg
Batke, Megan Krueger, Kendra and Nolan Thom, Mikel, Travis and
Nathan Lorenz; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral Service: Friday, February 17, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva. Visitation: Thursday, February 16, 2006, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva. Burial will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday at Hope Lutheran Cemetery, rural Sawyer, ND.
