Arden J. Barlow, 71, 3413 7th St. SW, ND, formerly of Valley City, ND, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in his home.

Arden J. "A.J." Barlow was born January 19, 1938, a son of Leonard T. and Selma (Helseth) Barlow, in Minot, ND. He was raised seven miles north of Minot and graduated from Minot Model School in 1956. He then attended Minot State College where he received his B.S. degree in Business in 1960.

A.J. enlisted in the United States Army Reserves in March of 1961. He was honorably discharged in 1967.

A.J. married Janice L. Ennis September 2, 1961, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot. He began his career with First National Bank (Wells Fargo) in Minot. He then worked for Norwest Bank (Wells Fargo) in Valley City, ND, and later ran the Plainsmen Implement in Bowman, ND, for a number of years. In 1991, he joined his wife, Jan, at Barlow Insurance in Valley City. He and Jan operated the business until their retirement in 2006.

A.J. was a very active in the communities in which he lived in. He was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Eagles Aerie, Elks Lodge, Shriners, Masons, Rotary, Country Club and Chamber of Commerce, all of Valley City. He was currently a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

He took pride in his collector cars. He also enjoyed golfing and playing cards.

Surviving family includes:
wife of 47 years, Jan, Minot; daughters, Amy (Dennis) Proctor, Lakeland, FL, and Beth (Mathew) Hardy, Huntersville, NC; grandchildren, Cassandra, Alyssa, Dennis "D.J." Proctor; and Brandyn and Andrea "Hope" Hardy; sister, Ardelle Paulson, Hutchinson, MN; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Mabel and Harold Ennis, Minot; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A.J. was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Bill Paulson.

Memorial Service: Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Minot, ND.

Visitation: No reviewal but friends may sign the book on Friday from Noon to 5 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Following the memorial service, please join the family for a time of fellowship and lunch in the lower level of the church. The graveside service will commence at a later date in the spring.
